The first edition of Lightweight Ballistic Composites was published in 2006 and a lot has changed in composite materials technology since then. Some of these changes are due to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, whereas others are due to the massive investment by private Companies to neutralize ever-increasing lethal global threats and to fulfill the military appetite for lighter materials.
The biggest changes are on the military ground and air vehicles. New military vehicles are no longer armored with heavy 100% steel armor but are lined with lightweight ballistic materials that protect military vehicles and soldiers inside from multiple fragments, bullets and Improved Explosive Devices (IED). This book is a fully revised and updated version of the first edition, providing a comprehensive review of the current use of lightweight ballistic composites in both military and law-enforcement applications. Topics such as high performance fabrics and fibers, ballistic threats, body armor protection, ceramics, and future trends, are reviewed in detail.

Dr. Ashok Bhatnagar has a PhD in Structural Composites and over 41 years of lightweight composite experience. He joined Honeywell International Inc. in 1985 and over the last 30 years has been instrumental in introducing products to a number of global companies.
About the Author
Dr Ashok Bhatnagar joined Honeywell International Inc. in 1985 and over the last 29 years has developed several lightweight composite ballistic materials and products. He has filed more than 50 patents and has authored more than 40 publications. He has taught at both the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India and the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago.
